Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, Est. 2001

Don’t let their name fool you – ALPFA at FIU is as diverse as our very own FIU campus. With members of different ethnic backgrounds interested in more than just Finance and Accounting, the ALPFA FIU chapter serves as a melting pot for professionals.

ALPFA is the largest professional association in the United States with over 16,000 members from coast to coast.

On campus they are recognized as one of the top organizations, at the College of Business they are known as one of two “go to organizations” for Accounting, Finance and MIS majors – however they do accept all majors.

ALPFA’s motto is “We believe in developing you as a professional and growing together as one family.” This could not be more true as they hold a reputation as one of the organizations that guarantees the most jobs and internships for its members. They do this through providing network opportunities such as “Ahead of the Game” a partnership with Beta Alpha Psi where they bring in over 30 companies and firms for one large expo.

At their general meetings ALPFA hosts two firms per meeting as well as guest speakers providing members with many different opportunities to learn more about the company of their choice.

Each year they attend a national convention, here ALPFA FIU has been awarded Chapter of the Year and has received ALPFA National Student of the Year for two years in a row as well as served as participants in Case Competitions where they have placed first and second several times.

Along with professionalism and a competitive spirit ALPFA also devotes time to several causes such as Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure.

American Marketing Association, Est. 2001

The American Marketing Association is the largest marketing association in North America for students, professionals and organizations involved in the advancement of marketing worldwide. The AMA chapter here at FIU is known for its creativity and innovation through their many on and off campus projects. They work with major companies such as Chevy to increase brand awareness at FIU and the Miami area as well as promote Chevy vehicles.

Along with exciting marketing projects and opportunities they are also involved with community activities including the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure and “AMA Saves Lives” a campaign designed to raise organ donation awareness and increase organ donor registrations.

“Industry Nights” have also become a huge staple for the AMA chapter here at FIU. Students looking for professional development and careers in marketing are eager to attend these nights where companies such as JCPenny and Proctor and Gamble come to speak to the best marketing students at FIU. Along with these nights AMA also hosts several workshops to help students develop as better leaders both in and out of the marketing profession.

An imaginative spirit, the ability to put together great projects, community involvement and professional development have all helped AMA at FIU become the 2010-2011 Platinum International Collegiate Chapter of the Year – in other words, number one in the nation. Each year they have the opportunity to display their projects and compete in several different events at their conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Beta Alpha Psi Eta Iota “Superior” Chapter, Est. 1986

The Beta Alpha Psi Eta Iota “Superior” Chapter of FIU is an international honorary organization catering to Accounting, Finance and MIS students. The chapters goal is to help facilitate the transition from student to professional.

Since 1988 they have been recognize as “Superior” chapter as well as being recognized as the 2004 Number One Honor Society at FIU.

The members of Beta Alpha Psi are known as some of the top business students at FIU in Accounting, Finance and MIS. Through their membership requirements and point system they ensure that only the best and most committed students join.

One of the biggest events for Beta is the “Ahead of the Game” expo. A partnership with another top Accounting, Finance and MIS organization ALPFA, it includes over 30 firms and companies in search of the best and brightest Accounting, Finance and MIS students at FIU.

Along with their many professional development endeavors, Beta Alpha Psi also maintains a high level of community involvement. They work with several organizations and also promote FIU Spirit through tailgates and attending several FIU events – including the Homecoming Queen candidate who is the Beta Alpha Psi Webmaster.

Future Business Leaders of America- Phi Beta Lambda, Est. 2007

FBLA-PBL was established only five years ago and has already made a name for itself in the College of Business and university-wide. Only four months ago the organization returned for its National Leadership Conference where schools such as Berkeley, Yale and Penn State also compete. Above ivy leagues and other top schools in the nation FBLA-PBL succeed in taking home 11 awards – the most in the state of Florida and was named the second best chapter in the nation. Their efforts were even recognized by President Mark B. Rosenberg who named the chapter a “Worlds Ahead” organization.

FBLA-PBL is also the “Chapter of the Year” in the state of Florida for the past three years. They focus on competition, community service and professional development.

Competition is a central point of the organization what allows it stand out among the rest. No organization offers over 60 competitive events the way FBLA-PBL does.

Community Service is also important to the chapter. The chapter holds monthly projects as well as one large project every year. The large project occurs through a series of events in one week during the Fall or Spring semester.

Professional development is one of the key areas for alumni to get involved. It is a developing area for the organization that is growing more every day and is the main area for alumni to become involved.

Alumni can become involved with FBLA-PBL by:

• - Serving as speakers at meetings
• - Providing workshops to members
• - Assisting as judges for competitors
• - Joining our Professional Division
• - Becoming mentors for students
• - Giving networking and internship opportunities to members
